Our Story

SOS has grown from a deep appreciation of nature and the countless personal and professional moments that revealed how profoundly our connection to it supports overall wellbeing.

Having spent many years walking beside young people and their families, as a specialist educator, mentor and therapist, repeatedly, I noticed the same shift in the young people: when nature was woven into our work, something in them softened. Their bodies settled, their minds eased, and a quiet understanding emerged that words alone couldn’t reach. From this calm, safe space, learning and growth became possible, and they were gently enabled to step into the strongest, truest versions of themselves.

I started gathering the elements that helped them most: grounding textures, calming scents, and small sensory rituals that made the world feel safe again. These became the first SOS products—tools designed to soothe the senses and remind each young person that they are capable, seen, and not alone. In the same way, SOS can support you and your family too, helping you find moments of calm, reconnect with your senses, and create small rituals that bring balance, clarity, and comfort into your everyday life.

Today, SOS is more than a collection of items. It’s a space where families feel held in their journey, where differences are honoured, and where the natural world quietly guides us back to ourselves.

Our Philosophy

The philosophy of SOS flows from a deep connection with nature and decades of lived and professional experience supporting neurodiverse young people and their families. These experiences have shown that holistic, nature-based, and sensory approaches are essential for many neurodivergent individuals, whose wellbeing is closely shaped by the interaction between their sensory systems, emotions, and environments.

We recognise that neurodiversity brings unique ways of thinking, feeling, and processing the world. Sensory sensitivities, emotional intensity, and environmental demands can all influence regulation and self-awareness, yet traditional approaches often overlook this complexity. SOS takes a sensory-first perspective: when children feel safe, grounded, and understood, learning and connection naturally become more accessible.

Our products reflect these principles. Each item is made with gentle, sustainable materials and inspired by the regulating qualities of the natural world. They are designed to nurture calm, confidence, and connection—offering simple, supportive ways to reduce sensory stress and bring balance into daily life.

At its core, SOS is guided by the belief that thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and sensory experiences are interconnected. By honouring neurodiverse sensory needs and translating nature’s calming qualities into practical tools, we aim to support children and families in feeling more regulated, more capable, and more at ease in their everyday environments.

Understanding your journey

Parenting a neurodivergent child is filled with love, but it also comes with unique challenges that can make everyday life feel overwhelming. Simple routines — getting ready for school, car journeys, bathtime, bedtime — can quickly become emotionally charged and unpredictable. The constant effort to create calm amidst meltdowns, sleepless nights, and external expectations can leave both you and your child feeling drained.

Many parents describe feeling unseen, despite their dedication and love. It’s not that your child isn’t trying — it’s that the world often isn’t designed for how they experience it.

At Sense of Self, we create natural, sensory-based products designed to bring moments of ease, comfort, and connection into daily life. Each product is thoughtfully made to support regulation, focus, and rest — helping families move beyond daily struggles toward calm, confidence, and connection.

Why Nature-Based Support

At SOS, we believe that healing begins by returning to both nature and oneself. Nature offers a calm, grounding space where sensory overload can soften, focus can return, and emotional balance becomes more attainable. The natural world surrounds us with rich sensory experiences that inspire curiosity, reflection, and connection — all vital for personal growth and lasting wellbeing.

At SOS, our mission is to bring nature’s calm, connection, and balance into your home.
